Atlanta Open

This year’s Atlanta Open has been one of the most eventful yet! We have found some new favorite players and some of our current favorites rising to the top in this wild tournament. Everyone is glad to be back in the U.S. after taking their skills overseas for Melbourne and Wimbledon. Now, we have gotten to see these players in action on the hardcourts.

Nick Kyrgios

Atlanta Open

Kyrgios has stepped down from the Atlanta singles tournament due to a knee injury. However, he plans to rest up and participate in the Atlanta doubles tournament. He told fans,  “I’m extremely sorry but I’m going to keep my hopes up and maybe be able to continue doubles with Thanasi this week.”

Sofia Kenin V.S. Coco Gauff

Atlanta Open

Kenin said she was grateful to be playing after being in a cast back in April. She hadn’t competed since Indian Wells, where she had to leave due to a foot injury. This injury caused her to drop rank, going from no. 4 to no. 419.

When Kenin stepped onto the courts in Atlanta she had a rough go at it when she went against Gauff. She lost the exhibition match in a set and a break at 6-1 and 2-0. Meanwhile, Gauff was living it up on the courts, impressing fans and dialing up her game after 10 years away from Atlanta.

John Isner

Isner has dominated the Atlanta Open with six titles and is shooting for his seventh. He has proven to be a challenging opponent on hard courts in general, some are predicting that Isner will rise to ATP’s No. 2 position.

Jenson Brooksby

Brooksby has had a great go at it this year winning three matches each at the ATP Masters 1000 events. He said he learned a lot this year on the clay and grass courts and believes he can do even better. He’s been killing it in the Atlanta tournament and we can’t wait to see where he goes in this tournament and afterward!

Ilya Ivashka

Ivashka has made it to the semi-finals and will soon be up against Alex De Minaur. Many were predicting that Tommy Paul would move on to the semi-finals but Ilya Ivashka gave it his best on the court and passed Paul to move on to the next match.
