Chasing down the Gold at the Tokyo Olympics

Tokyo Olympics

Tennis pros around the world have only one color on their mind – GOLD!   That’s because the 2021 Tokyo Olympics are just around the corner.  Open ceremonies will be on Friday, July 23, and match play starts Saturday, July 24. Whether the pros are participating or simply watching, we can expect great things to come from these summer games.

History in the Making

Novak Djokovic is on a quest to become one of the greatest tennis players of all time.  He is headed to the Tokyo Olympics where he hopes to bring home his first gold medal and join the ranks of Steffi Graf, who is the only player in history to win a gold medal and all four majors in the same year, 1988.  Referred to as the Calendar Golden Slam, Novak will attempt to add the Olympic medal to his 2021 titles after winning Wimbledon, Roland Garros, and the Australian Open earlier in the year.

The 34-year-old number one player in the world will be keeping this historic opportunity alive wearing Lacoste apparel. Also, he will be playing with the esteemed Head Graphene 360+ and carrying his loot in the massive Head Djokovic 12R Monstercombi Tennis Bag White and Black.

Should Novak earn the gold, he will still need to win in New York at the U.S. Open scheduled to begin on Aug 30, 2021, to achieve the Calendar Golden Slam.

Remarkably, Graf and Agassi met at the height of their careers at Roland Garros in Paris, the City of Love. They were married on October 22, 2001.  This iconic couple of the court has built a tennis academy in Las Vegas and even dabbled with coaching tennis pros such as Grigor Dimitrov.  You can learn more about these amazing players, along with many other past tennis Olympians, featured in collector card sets and autographed cards.
