Yonex’ new Power Cushion Eclipsion 3 takes the crown as the brand’s flagship shoe. Worn by an increasing number of pros, the latest Eclipsion is designed for ultimate comfort, stability, and response. While many familiar technologies return, such as Power Cushion and Power Cushion+, we also see the implementation of a new upper build and updated technologies that aim to improve performance. Let’s take a closer look:

New Upper Design
Yonex updated the Eclipsion 2’s hexagonal overwrap construction with a new diamond pattern in an attempt to make the shoe move more naturally. Players can expect a similar level of breathability, durability, and toe space, as Double Russel Mesh, Durable Skin technology, and Toe Assist Shape all return to maintain a similar fit and feel.
Unique Insole
The Eclipsion 3 features a Synchro-Fit insole designed to provide additional support around the front of the heel to reduce space between the foot and the shoe. This translates to greater grip, improved comfort, and better performance. It’s also lightly perforated to increase ventilation.
Sturdy Heel
To enhance overall stability, Yonex incorporated a rather large and sturdy heel structure. It aims to reduce excess flex, and keep your heel and ankle protected during dynamic movements. There’s also a large heel tab to help get the shoe on.
Advanced Midsole and Outsole
The Power Cushion Eclipsion 3 maintains exceptional comfort thanks to the return of a few key technologies. First and foremost, full-length Power Cushion offers a responsive underfoot sensation, while Power Cushion+ in the forefoot and heel further enhances cushioning and energy return (you can see both through the bottom of the shoe). We also see the return of ToughBrid Light for greater response and shape retention. Power Graphite Drive and a Power Graphite Sheet further improve stability and propulsion. Last, but certainly not least, non-marking Endurance Rubber II with Round Sole technology makes a return for durable performance.
Fit and Sizing
I personally found the fit of the Eclipsion 3 to be similar to the last one. The length felt true to size, while the width seemed about average, and the arch height was medium. There was a minor break in period for me to grow accustomed to the shoe.
