ASICS’ GEL-Resolution Tennis Shoes have been a staple in the tennis world for some time now. The GEL-Resolution 7 was the long-time shoe of Novak Djokovic before he got his own model, while stars like Gael Monfils and Johanna Konta still sport the high-performing Resolution. So why all the fuss? Well, with the coming of a new decade, ASICS has unveiled their latest update to the line: The GEL-Resolution 8. We haven’t had our hands on it for long, but there are definitely a few key changes to note.
ASICS GEL-Resolution 8 Tennis Shoes
With this update, ASICS wanted to grant athletes with premier performance, and instill the utmost confidence on the court. To do this, they sought direct input from none other than top-10 ATP singles pro Gael Monfils. The GEL-Resolution 8 is designed to promote a responsive stride with a close-to-the-court feel, all while maintaining the durability, support, and comfort the line is known for. This is certainly a tall order. To achieve these goals, we’re introduced to a couple of new features previously unseen in the GEL-Resolution lineup, as well as some old favorites. Let’s break them down:
Flexion Fit and PGUARD
A consistent performer in the GEL-Resolution line, Flexion Fit returns in the upper to provide form-fitting support. It’s joined by another familiar tech in the PGUARD toe protector. As the name implies, this feature provides added security for toe draggers.
DYNAWALL
DYNAWALL is a midfoot stabilizing technology designed to help you move with better lateral control. If you like to grind it out on the baseline, this tech should give you more confidence in getting to where you need to go. It’s clearly visible on the medial side between the heel and forefoot.
DYNAWRAP
Like DYNAWALL, DYNAWRAP enhances the stability of the GEL-Resolution 8. It consists of two straps incorporated into the lacing system that cross over the tongue, and connect down to both the medial and lateral sides. As a player moves side to side, tension is created that pulls in the opposite direction of movement. This helps keep the athlete’s foot centered over the footbed, making transitions quicker and smoother.
FlyteFoam
We’ve seen FlyteFoam in a couple of other ASICS tennis shoes, but this is the first Resolution to get it, and with excellent results. This advanced midsole technology offers a high level of cushioning and bounce back in a lightweight package for a major upgrade in overall responsiveness.
GEL
GEL cushioning is also leveraged to further reduce the impact of shock from abrupt stop-and-go movements. It’s located in both the heel and midfoot for premium underfoot comfort.
Ortholite
Ortholite comfort foam insoles are used to help maintain long-term cushioning. They’re also designed to improve breathability beneath your feet, manage moisture, and remain lightweight.
AHAR+
As fans of the GEL-Resolution 7 would expect, durable AHAR+ outsole material returns in the GEL-Resolution 8. Even better, it’s still backed by a 6-month durability guarantee in hard court models.
Fit and Sizing
The fit of the GEL-Resolution 8 should remain pretty familiar to most that have used the GEL-Resolution 7. The update keeps a pretty average width and medium arch. Once fully in production, we’ll see clay court models and wide widths for both men and women.
