Last year, with Nike tennis apparel, we saw a different trend of stylish clothing. We saw city inspirational designs in New York and Paris, as well as throwback 90s fashions for the 2019 Australian Open. This year, Nike is combining these trends to make a unique line for the 2020 Australian Open and Spring season. The brand works with Melbourne-based artist Cassie Byrnes to bring a vibrant collection to life on the tennis court. Byrnes’ is a surface pattern designer that displays her love for color and nature through her artwork. You’ll see a variety colors/textures throughout the spring collections that reflect a pre-historic Australia and is built to make fashion history.

Men’s and Women’s Melbourne Collection
The most notable clothing options for men are the NikeCourt Breathe Advantage Polo, NikeCourt Challenger Short Sleeve Top and NikeCourt Flex Ace All Over Print Short. We saw a glimpse of the breathable knit polo last year during Wimbledon with a throwback design. The breathe advantage polo uses those same fabric features to keep a lightweight, ventilated feel. Uniquely, it’s textured in a subtle abstract style with colorful prints on the underside of the collar, the cuff lining and the inside of the placket to add a hint of boldness.
The Challenger Short Sleeve Top comes in two distinct styles that are both inspired by different Australian time periods. One is a modern mosaic design that’s an abstract take on Tazmania’s dolerite rock columns which formed during the Jurassic Period. The other is a bright abstract print that’s inspired by the continents separating and transforming into what we see today.
The Flex Ace All Over Print Shorts follow a similar trend as the Challenger Short Sleeve Top. One short comes in a brighter abstract design that’s a little more eye-catching, while the other comes in a more muted tone depending on your style preference.
Women have a slightly different look for Melbourne, but feature some similar print styles. Most notable options for the women are the NikeCourt Dress, NikeCourt Bodysuit and NikeCourt Wrap Skort. The Bodysuit, a big change from previous years, features stretchy Nike Dry fabric, mesh panels, a back cutout, and an integrated short for convenient ball storage. Its comes in three different color options, Opti Yellow, Purple Nebula and Black, so you can rock the court in style. If you want to stay a little more covered, there’s the Melbourne Team Court Wrap Skort or Melbourne Team Court Dress that layers right over the bodysuit. The skort features a faux-wrap design that’s flattering and modern as well as a wide waistband, built-in shorts and soft jersey fabric for comfort. The dress is sleeveless with a fitted bodice, thick straps, full back, unique faux-wrap skirt, and a perforated back panel for extra ventilation. Though the dress and skort don’t come in other color options, they coordinate well with various apparel items in the Nike Spring 2020 Collection.
Men’s and Women’s Spring Collection
Like previous Nike clothing collections, the brand is sharing similar colors throughout their popular apparel items allowing players to coordinate with their favorite pros. The Men’s Dry Pique Polo, Men’s Heritage Standard Polo and Men’s Heritage Fleece Hoodie all come in an Ember Glow colorway that’s uniquely tasteful and distinct so you can brighten up your game play. The Men’s Challenger Short Sleeve Top and Dry Blade Polo come in Opti Yellow and Laser Crimson colorways to match the options as seen in the abstract Melbourne prints. A unique outlier for men is the Men’s Court Dry Team Print Top which features a coral reef-inspired print to show off your love for the ocean. Other distinct options in this collection include the NikeCourt Men’s Flex Ace Solid 9 Inch Shorts, NikeCourt Men’s Dry 9 Inch Shorts and NikeCourt Men’s Dry 7 Inch Shorts.
Women will see some subtle changes in style this go around, but with similar colors to coordinate with the ladies on the pro tour. The classic Women’s Court Dry Dress gets reinvented with a fitted bodice, flared skirt, slightly-textured fabric and thin, well-defined straps, it brings the tennis version of a skater dress onto the courts for you. The Women’s Court Print Tank is modified with a high-neck design, a subtle allover print and slit at the back to give you a stylish but sporty look. The Women’s Court Straight Printed Skort and Women’s Elevated Flouncy Skort were introduced last season for a dynamic sporty style. This time they get updated with the Valerian Blue, Washed Coral and Purple Nebula colors to match the pros. Similar to the skorts, the ever always classy Women’s Court Dry Long Sleeve Half Zip and Women’s Court Flex Shorts are updated with the same new colors.
Kids’ Spring Collection
Now you won’t see too much differences in the boys’ and girls’ spring apparel collections, but there are a couple unique changes. The Boys’ Rafa Court Dry Legend Tee is updated to mimic his favorite pro’s wardrobe with a subtle abstract print design and soft relaxed finish. The Boys’ Court Dry Short Sleeve Top gets significant style changes with mesh side panels and breathable knit mesh fabric to give him even better ventilation as he plays. The short sleeve top will come in 2 contrasting color options, Opti Yellow with Iron or Black with Laser Crimson, as well as 5 basic color options Royal, Navy, Red, White and Black.
Girls get two new clothing options in different color variations, the Girls Court Dry Short Sleeve Tennis Top and Straight Tennis Skort. The Short Sleeve Top is changed just slightly to a slimmer fit so it can offer a tailored, sleek style. The Straight Skort is updated with a subtle A-line design to give it more a figure-hugging fit. Both will options will come in White, Black, Purple Nebula, Washed Coral, Royal and Red color variations so she can coordinate with any of her favorite Nike tennis gear.
