On unveils THE ROGER PRO 2 and Clubhouse Pro Tennis Shoes

Roger Federer retired in 2022, but the Swiss legend’s partnership with On-Running continues. THE ROGER Pro was On’s first court shoe, which was very well received. On created a shoe that features some of the brand’s signature technology, but with some new additions to be sure it holds up to rigorous lateral movement on the tennis court. To maintain stability, the shoe was built with a solid midsole made from a high-density, high-performance foam. A 100% carbon fiber Speedboard™ was used in the shoes and designed to improve energy return with every step.

The Roger Pro was perfect for elite players who prefer a connected-to-the-court feel. While the cushioning is adequate, it is not as soft as some other shoes on the market. Instead, THE ROGER Pro is designed to put you in complete control of your movement, a la Roger Federer.  The fit of the Roger Pro was snug, so it took some tinkering for players to find the right size for themselves.

On-Running didn’t grow its market share this quickly by being complacent, and earlier this year it launched THE ROGER Clubhouse Pro.

The Clubhouse Pro is more of an every-man court shoe. For starters, the CP has a bigger heel-toe drop which increases the cushioned feel provided by hidden CloudTec® elements. If THE ROGER Pro was not cushioned enough for you, then the Clubhouse is perfect thanks to the softer feel and bouncier response. The Clubhouse Pro offers a more generous and forgiving fit that can work wonders for tennis players, pickleball players, or general fitness enthusiasts. The Clubhouse Pro will not offer the same tour-level stability as THER ROGER Pro, but the lower price point and step-in comfort is sure to develop a following among recreational players of all levels.

Players looking for THE ROGER Pro sequel did not have to wait long, and this summer On unveiled the Roger Pro 2.

On THE ROGER PRO 2 Tennis Shoes

If the first generation Roger Pro was a big win for style, then version two upped the ante with some impressive substance. Let’s start with the open herringbone outsole which is a departure from version 1. On went with a special tread pattern on the first-gen Roger Pro for a balance of grip and glide, but the open herringbone pattern is more predictable for most players. The 100% carbon fiber Speedboard® adds stability, while the molded heel counter locks the foot into place.

On revamped the upper with abrasion-resistant mesh and a perforated tongue to make it tougher yet more breathable. Those who are tough on their shoes will love the reinforced rubber toe cap and the lateral TPU clip which provide added support. It has to be said that the new version has easier entry, and On added an additional eyelet which helps players find the ideal lockdown for their particular taste. A 10mm drop makes THE ROGER Pro 2 feel more connected to the court surface for more confidence during rapid exchanges. World number one Iga Swiatek and up-and-coming American Ben Shelton wear THE ROGER PRO 2 on tour.

ROGER Pro 2 Features

  • Open herringbone outsole adds predictable traction
  • The redesigned entry loses the stylish button clasp, but the perforated tongue fits better.
  • Extra eyelet (not in version 1) helps lock down the heel into the shoe
  • Abrasion-resistant mesh upper is more practical and holds up better than the previous model
  • Reinforced Rubber toe cap will improve durability, big time
  • More snug fit and direct cushioning, similar to RP 1
