Playtesting the New Head Extreme Pro 2024 Tennis Racquet

Head Extreme

As someone who typically plays with stiffer racquets, I was genuinely blown away at how versatile and responsive the Head Extreme Pro 2024 Tennis Racquet felt on the court. The first thing you’ll notice about the Extreme Pro is its bright yellow frame, it’s kind of hard to miss. Similarly, with its familiar 98 square-inch head, it truly is hard to miss. Like a hot flash of lightning, this racquet is one of the fastest 10.8-ounce racquets around.

If you are in the market for a new racquet, the Head Extreme is a mighty contender.

Racquet Profile

The Head Extreme tennis racquet is endorsed on the pro tour by Matteo Berrettini and 2-time grand slam champ Barbora Krejcíková. It’s a deadly weapon for players who like to play anywhere on the court. At 10.8 ounces, it’s fairly light and ‘extremely’ mobile, making it a top choice for players who like to swing hard and fast. The Extreme is best suited for players who aren’t afraid to attack the ball. The racquet generates spin easily, making it ideal for those who put lots of topspin on the ball. This racquet has an unfair advantage on clay.

The Extreme was designed to be swung… fast. With a 98-square-inch head, the Extreme offers enough forgiveness without feeling too big. It was a magnificent racquet for transitioning from defense to offense. It provides amazing shot selection from anywhere on the court, making hitting on the run more comfortable. The Extreme has a flex rating of 64/100, making it less stiff than most racquets we sell. Additionally, this racquet is slightly head light, meaning the weight can be felt more in the handle. While this takes away some power, it makes groundstrokes feel snappier, giving the ball more bite as it comes off the strings.

My Take on the Head Extreme

Head Extreme

Like I said before, I typically play with racquets with a higher flex rating, but I was pleasantly surprised with the performance of the Head Extreme Pro. The first thing I noticed about the Extreme was how delightful groundstrokes felt. I was a little hesitant to hit the ball hard and full, but as soon as I lengthened my swing and hit through the ball, the ball was going right where I intended, and with more topspin than I usually hit with. While the ball wasn’t going as fast, it was going deeper and with more topspin, arguably a more deadly shot.

Transitioning from defense to offense was my favorite part of using this racquet. Hitting a shot from the baseline and charging to the net felt natural. Normally, this is where I like to use stiffer racquets because they offer so much stability and exactness at the net, but the Extreme’s 98-square-inch head was large enough that I felt confident going for aggressive volleys and tactical drop shots. While it doesn’t have as much touch as a stiffer racquet would, I enjoyed hitting my volleys deep into the court to force my opponents back into more defensive positions.

Serving was the most difficult aspect of using this racquet (for me). I don’t generate a lot of power on my serve, which means I had to swing harder than I normally do; subsequently sacrificing some accuracy. That said, with the Extreme’s awesome ability to generate spin, my second serve, a kick serve, jumped off the ground more than it ever would have on my go-to racquet.

If I’m being honest, using the Head Extreme made me consider switching racquets. I use a Wilson Pro Staff, which is almost as stiff as it gets. The flexibility and spin of the Extreme were so much fun to wield. I only wish serves felt more powerful. However, the racquet provides so much natural versatility that swinging a little harder doesn’t make that much of a difference.

Who is the Head Extreme Pro 2024 Tennis Racquet For?

The 2024 Head Extreme is ideal for intermediate to advanced players who excel with spin and prefer a versatile racquet for various court positions. Its spin-friendly design suits aggressive baseliners who can leverage their fast swing to generate powerful shots. The lower power level means it requires a more forceful swing, making it perfect for players who can handle that demand and seek to control their shots with precision and spin. Its all-court performance makes it a great choice for those who want a racquet that supports both baseline rallies and net play, providing ample spin for offense, defense, and creative shot selection.
