American Tennis Pros – Part 1 of 3

There’s no better time than President’s day to take a look at the accomplished American Tennis Pros. In this special 3-part series, we’ll examine the ever-changing tennis topography where American pros are ascending to the top of the leaderboard.

American pros represent approximately 20% of the top 50 singles players for both the ATP and WTA tours. There are 10 male pros and 9 female pros in the top 50. In this post, we’re going to take a look at the professional male and female players that have earned their place in the top 25 in the world.

Top 25 ATP Tennis Pros

We begin with San Diego native, Taylor Fritz. As the highest-ranked U.S. male singles player, Taylor is No. 7 in the world. He joined the ATP Tour in 2015 and started playing tennis at the age of two. Inspired by his parents, who also played professional tennis, Taylor holds 4-singles titles, including a Masters 1000 at the 2022 Indian Wells. Endorsing Nike and Head, he leverages powerful strokes to climb the leader ladder.

Another force to be reckoned with is Frances Tiafoe. Ranked No. 15,  the 25-year-old won his first ATP Tour title in Delray Beach at the age of 20. He also remains the youngest American champion on tour since Andy Roddick. Learning the game with his twin brother, Franklin, the Tiafoe brothers picked up their racquets at a Junior Tennis Champions Center in Maryland, where their father worked. Wearing Nike gear and playing with Yonex racquets, this superstar is on a steady incline to the top.

Tommy Paul is ranked No. 25.  Last year he posted his personal best with 39 wins. Also, he defeated some big-name players including Rafael Nadal, Alexander Zverev, and Carlos Alcaraz. Recently, he made it to the semi-finals at the Australian Open, losing to the tournament winner, Novak Djokovic in straight sets. Tommy grew up playing on clay and is a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan. He endorses New Balance and Yonex.

Jessica Pegula is ranked No. 4 in the world on the WTA tour. She turned pro in 2009 and Martina Hingis was her idol growing up. Her parents are principal owners of the NFL Buffalo Bills. Jessica endorses adidas and describes herself as “determined”. Pegula plays in adidas gear with Yonex racquets.

Coco Gauff is No. 6 in the world. A pro with athletic parents, Coco was named after her father, Corey Guaff, who doubles as her coach. Even though their names were spelled differently it created confusion. Therefore the family decided to nickname Cori, Coco. Endorsin Head and New Balance, Coco collaborated with New Balance last year to make her first signature shoe.

Madison Keys is holding strong at No. 23. She’s been as high as No. 7, in 2016, after working with the legendary Lindsay Davenport.  Keys turned pro on her 14th birthday, becoming one of the youngest players to join the tour. She endorses Wilson and Nike and is passionate about her charity, Kindness Wins.
