Fourth of July Fan Favorites – Pro Players & Apparel

Cheering for your favorite pro players across the pond at Wimbledon just got a little more patriotic. That’s because this Fourth of July weekend, there will be some great Americans to cheer on as they chase down the grass title.

U.S. Wimbledon Hopefuls

Rising American superstar Coco Gauff, will play her third-round match against Kaja Juvan on Saturday, July 3.  The 17-year old Guaff is expected to give the 20-year-old Juvan a real run for her money as she executes some of her best shots yet!

Taylor Fritz, is another young American pro to watch closely. Armed with a stealthy two-handed backhand, he will play the number four seed, Alexander Zverev on July 3.  Fritz will have his work cut out for him and we can expect this match to go the distance. Both players are striking the ball well and playing at the top of their game.

Pro Players

Another U.S. name to watch is Sebastian Korda. Korda has made it to the Round of 16.  He is scheduled to take on Karen Khachanov from Russia on Monday, July 5.  I wouldn’t be surprised if this match goes to a fifth-set tiebreaker!

Customary for Wimbledon, the middle Sunday is reserved for tournament play affected by any rain delays.  There have only been four such occasions since the tournament’s inception in 1877.  They occurred in  1991, 1997, 2004, and 2016. There is little chance of matchplay this Fourth.

Patriotic Pro Players Enlist in the Olympics

If you happen to miss your favorite American pros at Wimbledon, not to worry.  The Olympics are just around the corner and the U.S. team has a favorable roster.  Among the greats who are expected to compete in Toyko, Japan is Coco Gauff,  Jennifer Brady, Jessica Pegula, and Alison Riske on the women’s side.

We can expect to see Tommy Paul, Frances Tiafoe, Tennys Sandgren, and Marcos Giron on the men’s side in Tokyo.  Opening ceremonies will be on July 23, 2021, and the summer games will conclude on Sunday, August 8. Be on the lookout for more details about the Olympics and your favorite player by regularly checking back to our TennisExpressBlog.
