Go Green with Sustainable Tennis Clothes

Going green is no longer limited to St. Patricks Day, after all, you can wear sustainably made tennis clothes year-round. Today’s apparel manufacturers are getting creative with their designs and the material they use to create them. They are becoming more environmentally conscious. In turn, several well-renowned tennis brands such as Adidas, Nike, New Balance, Fila, Penguin, Lotto, Asics, EleVen, and more, are taking steps to reduce their carbon footprint.

In particular, apparel manufacturers are replacing traditional polyester with recycled polyester. This innovative fabric is made of discarded plastics, primarily water and soda bottles. The non-biodegradable waste is being diverted from landfills and even collected from oceans, coastlines, and waterways around the world.

Processing recycled polyester uses about 40% fewer greenhouse emissions than traditional polyester, resulting in significant savings of valuable resources like fossil fuels, coal, oil, and other natural gas.

Fashion experts are also integrating fabulous technologies into these “green” collections for men, women, and junior players.

Sustainable Tennis Clothes for Men

Tennis Apparel

An example of sustainable tennis clothes for men would be the Adidas Ergo tennis shorts. They come in Olive Strata and are available in both a 9-inch and a 7-inch style. They also have an elastic waistband and inner-leg mesh gussets. Besides great breathability, these shorts have Adidas proprietary HEAT.RDY technology to help manage unwanted moisture. As part of the Adidas Primegreen family, these products are made from 100% recycled materials.

Another example would be the Fila Men`s Solar Power Color Block tennis polo. It has a patterned chest piece and a collared neckline. Made with 94% recycled polyester, this polo matches other quality apparel by Fila to a tee. Fila’s company goal is to utilize environmentally conscious materials that are recyclable, biodegradable, and organic.

Nike is joining the bandwagon too. These Nike Men`s Rafa Court Dri-FIT Advantage 7-inch tennis shorts are made with all of the cool advantages you’ve come to know and love from Nike. In addition, they are made of 86% recycled polyester. Talk about a win-win!

Sustainable Tennis Clothes for Women

Tennis Apparel

WTA pro players such as Jessica Pegula and Maria Sakkari endorse Adidas. Maybe you’ve seen them in this Adidas Women’s Club tennis top? It has Aeroready technology, which is another proprietary component. Made for match play or a practice session, this tennis top has a relaxed fit. Best of all, it is made with 100% Recycled Polyester.

Nike is encouraging consumers to purchase tennis clothes that are sustainably made. Pieces like this Nike Women`s Dri-FIT One Luxe Twist tennis top. It’s super soft, very flexible, and has Nike’s Dri-FIT technology, so you can play with confidence throughout your match.

Another illustration is the Fila women`s Alley Printed tennis dress.  This racerback dress has princess seams down the front. It also has a flattering fit and a 1/4 zip at the v-neckline. Besides four-way stretch and moisture-wicking properties, it has UPF 50+ protection. But the best part of this dress is that it’s made with 75% recycled nylon.

Comparable to recycled polyester, recycled nylon converts nylon waste, like fishing nets, and repurposes them into beautiful activewear. Going green is one movement all tennis players can get behind, and not just on St. Patrick’s day.
