Roland Garros Brings Next Generation of Players and Products

Roland Garros

The Roland Garros tennis complex is full of young, aspiring athletes this year.  These “Rookies,” so to speak, are the next generation of players. They are pros coming up in groups. Kind of like when  Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, and Jim Courier gravitated towards center court all around the same time.  On the women’s side, we remember headliners like Martina Hingis, Steffi Graf, and Monica Seles.  Each answered the call to stardom, winning numerous titles and even a Golden Slam (Steffi in 1988).

Some of the more recent leaders on the ATP tour have included Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murphy.  Dominating the top of the WTA rankings have been superstars such as Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka, and the Queens of the Court, Venus and Serena Willimas.  In fact, the Williams sisters have monopolized podiums around the world for the past 20 years.

In addition to the next generation of pro-players, we are seeing some new mind-blowing products at the French Open. From fashions to footwear, and tennis rackets to radical accessories, you can find them at TennisExpress.com.

Passing the Torch

Paris Tennis

Some of the young guns stepping up and taking Paris by storm are newcomers like Carlos Alcaraz, Jenson Brooksby, Casper Ruud, and Sebastian Korda. Not to mention those who are on the cusp of playing their best tennis ever. Pros such as Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Alexander Zverev, and Stefanos Tsitsipas are in the midst of the transition, as are Leylah Fernandez and Emma Raducanu. The two have been on the tour for a bit but made headlines when they went toe-to-toe during the 2021 U.S. Open Women’s Finals. Other WTA players to watch are Iga Swiatek, Paula Badosa, Ons Jabeur, and Amanda Anisimova. One of the youngest players to make it through the qualifiers was Linda Noskova. The 17-year-old from the Czech Republic lost in the first round.

We anticipated these rising rookies will go deep into the draw and some might even claim the clay-court championship title at the 2022 French Open finals.

Trendy Tennis Apparel

Adidas Paris

Besides a boatload of confidence, these players will be showcasing the newest in French Open Fashions. Take for example the Adidas Paris Collection.  Adidas came up with a revolutionary way to promote their eco-friendly clothing.  They included symbols of the sea, sand, and sun. Inspired by the botanical gardens at Roland Garros, the collection includes a variety of men’s clothing.  T-shirts, polo shirts, shorts, a sleeveless tennis tank, graphic tees, and a fitted long sleeve top to name a few.  The women’s collection has two tennis dresses. You can also mix and match from a variety of tennis tanks and skorts.  Most of the apparel in this collection offers Freelift construction to enhance your range of motion. All are made with HEAT.RDY material, meaning you will stay cool and fresh throughout your practice or match.  Also, this apparel is made from recycled materials including Parley Ocean Plastic, which converts plastic waste intercepted from beaches and coastal communities into a lightweight polyester.

Other big brands in Paris include Nike, Fila, Asics, New Balance, and Lacoste. Perhaps one of the most audacious tennis apparel is Hydrogen.  Best known for its skull logo, the leading Italian luxury sportswear manufacturer was founded in 2003. They are on the cutting edge of designing tennis apparel with bold colorways and spectacular features.  Check out Marton Fucsovics in the photo below. He’s wearing the Hydrogen Men’s Tattoo Tech tennis top and shorts (far right). Medvedev (top left) is wearing Lacoste.  Raducanu (middle top) has on a Nike dress and Sweitck (bottom left) is wearing a colorful Asics outfit.
