Sneaker Review: Putting The NikeCourt Zoom Vapor X To The Test

Sneaker Review: Putting The NikeCourt Zoom Vapor X To The Test

After three years Nike finally updated the Vapor with a complete redesign.

The fit of the shoe is similar to the Vapor 9.5 but is more narrow at the toe box. I’ve been wearing the old model on court since it came out and the fit was perfect. Within the first few minutes of testing the feeling was the same with the NEW Zoom Vapor X. If you prefer a little extra room in the toe area of the shoe, I recommend going up a half-size. This should give you the length that you want with a more relaxed feel. At the first moments of aggressive baseline movement you might notice a little more support around the ankle that results in a somewhat stiffer form. Just like the Vapor Flyknit, and the rest of the Vapor family, the Vapor X might take you a few extra hours of play to break in.

The Vapor X overall feels softer than the 9.5. I immediately noticed the heel of the shoe provided excellent cushioning. This shoe is similar to the previous design with only a few changes. Nike added a larger mesh toe-box to help with the break-in of the shoe. The 2018 version has the dynamic fit technology to help lock your foot in place.

Finally, we tested the outsole of the Vapor X. Notice that the tread pattern (above) is different compared to the vapor 9 and 9.5. The new tread pattern performed amazing on the court during my lateral movements. With no difference in traction the durability remained the same in comparison. Based off the testing hours, verses the wear put on the shoe, I estimate this shoe will last 3-4 months if used heavily on court (20 hours/week.) For any tennis player in need of a high performance shoe, the NikeCourt Vapor X is definitely the most wanted.
